Catching the Boise State Fever

My step-dad, Craig, is a huge sports fan.  You name it...he loves it!  Of course, like all GOOD Minnesota peeps, he roots for the Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves, and the Wild.  Rick and I, and my brother Jordan, have started to give him the BSU Blue Fever!  So naturally, being this close to BSU we couldn't let him go home with out seeing the BLUE Turf in person...that would just be wrong!

Another New Favorite

PIZZA!!!
The best food on earth!  RIGHT?!?!  Who doesn't love some good pizza?!  Well, for a long time I had heard about Flying Pie Pizza in Boise, but had never made it in there.  Since we were going to be at the zoo and would need to get lunch, I thought we should treat my mom and step-dad to lunch.  We went to Flying Pie Pizza on Fairview in Boise.  IT WAS SO FLIPPIN' AMAZING!!!  I remember when it was featured on Man vs. Food...so I knew it would be good...but HOLY BUCKETS (yes, I said "Holy BUCKETS"...it is my personal favorite phrase...and yes, people laugh at me for it) IT WAS BRILLIANT!

My mom and step-dad loved it too.  My mom wanted to know how soon they could open one up in Rapid City, SD for them.  They did tell her that people from all over the country have had their pizza shipped to them...but it gets a little spendy!  I guess people will do anything for great pizza.

Zoo Boise

Zoo Boise is always a great place to visit.  Definitely one of our favorite spots!  Caleb and Emma were very excited to take Grandma and Grandpa there.  Lots of great things to see...some old favorites and some NEW things to see too!

My absolute favorite addition to the Zoo was the new baby Mangabey!  Not a great picture, but it was so fun watching that baby hang on to his/her mommy and it jumped, swung and ran all over.  Simply amazing!

My favorite...the giraffes!!!

A few of my favorite pictures of my kids!

The Butterfly Room - LOVE IT!!!

Caleb pretending to be a slow turtle...he is so silly!!

I am glad this guy is not real, but Emma thought it would be fun to have one at home!

A New Favorite Spot

It is no secret that I love a nice glass of wine (and a great cup of coffee).  Now, don't get me wrong, I don't over do it.  But a nice glass of wine is sure relaxing once and a while, and studies have shown that is very good for you too!

In the 10 year that I have lived in Idaho I have never gone out to Ste. Chapelle Vineyard and Winery.  And why not, you ask?!?!  Honestly, I have no idea.  IT IS BEAUTIFUL!!!  Not a wine drink, no problem...it is still breath taking.  The vineyard is something else.  This gem is so close to our house too!  IN LOVE!

We took my mom and step-dad there yesterday for a little day trip.  We all enjoyed ourselves!  For $5, you get to sample 5 different wines (about an ounce each) plus you get the glass to keep!

Beautiful Ste. Chapelle Vineyard and Winery

Gorgeous day!

"Look mom...GRAPES!!!"

The great wine glass I got with the wine tasting and the amazing coaster I bought at the winery!
It made me laugh out loud standing there.

Waiting for Grandma and Grandpa

It is hard to NOT be excited when Grandma and Grandpa are coming to visit!!!  Caleb and Emma waited outside on the curb for them...rode bikes...walked around...asked about a million times if they were going to be here soon!
They have been so happy about our company coming.  They sure do love them a lot.  It is hard living so far away from family.  I wish we could move closer or they move closer to us!  Wouldn't that be nice!?!?

Girls Camp

What a true blessing it is to get to be a camp counselor up at Trinity Pines!!  I can't not tell you the fun that I have and the joy it brings me to be up there loving on those girls and showing them who Jesus Christ is to me.  And I am so thrilled that my own kids get to do Genesis Camp next year!!!  WHAT FUN!

This year was a circus theme...and it was fun!  Our cabin were the Acrobats.  The activities for the girls were great.  We learned how to make silts and balloon flowers.  Not sure if I would be able to do it again, but I would try!

I had a great group of girls and moms in my cabin again this year.  It is absolutely a pleasure to have moms that are willing to help, but at the same time let you do your job as a counselor.

The only bummer this year, was that Saturday morning I woke with a cold!!!  It made for a really long few days.  I had a hard time sleeping, cause I could not breath.  And I used a a half a box of Kleenex all by myself (one of the big boxes).  Oh well, such is life.  Just have to plow through, right?!

 My awesome cabin!!!

 The night of the carnival!

If you can't have friends to be goofy with, what is the point!?!

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to my husband, my best friend, my other half...
our children are truly blessed to have such an amazing man raising them!
Not every kids is lucky enough to have a "daddy", but Caleb and Emma have the best one!!!
Thank you Rick, for being an amazingly, Godly man.  Your love for the Lord, me and the kids is so apparent in your every day living.  I know that our kids will grow up having a strong faith in the Lord and a good understanding about what a marriage and family should look like!  A home full of unconditional love!!!

Remembering my Grandma

I was blessed with a gift from Rick's cousin, Doug Wiese and his wife, Geri after Grandma passed away.  Doug and Geri gave me a gift card to D&B to pick out something to plant in the yard in memory of her.  I was so touched and so excited to do it.  Grandma loved flowers and gardens.  I love the thought of a pretty flowering bush in memory of her!

This is the beautiful bush that I picked out.  It is called a Pinky Winky Hydrangea.  It will have pink and white flowers.  Grandma love the color pink, so I thought that was fitting.  I will take another picture of it when it starts to bloom.  I am looking forward to seeing it!

The "Get Along" Shirt

I believe in creative punishments when dealing with kids.  I would never do anything to hurt my children, but I believe that the punishment should fit the crime.  I believe in a good ole' fashioned spanking now and then too, but that is a last resort.  Mind you, I do not have to punish my kids often...they are GREAT kids.  I feel lucky that they are so well behaved and I am told often how wonderful they are, but they are kids and every so often it just so happens that we have to be "mean" parents.  I tell Caleb and Emma when this happens, that I am sorry I have to be "mean", but they always tell me that I am not.  I think they understand that sometimes mommy and daddy have to be tough.

For two week now, since they have been home full time on summer vacation they have been bickering and fighting with each other almost nonstop.  It has been driving us crazy.  I used to make them sit and hold hands, but that didn't seem tough enough this time or creative enough.  I can not take credit for this, as I saw it on Facebook or Pintrest.  But I did love the idea, so I thought, WHY NOT!

After a long day of them fighting, I finally told them yesterday, that if it continued I was going to make them wear a shirt together.  They both said they would hate this, so I told them that if they didn't want that to happen then they need to stop the fighting and being mean to each other.

So, today, remembering the talk we had, they started in again with each other.  I gave them just one warning.  Then BAM!  The next thing I knew they were fighting again.  Without one word I got up, went to our closet, found a big, old t-shirt that I use for PJ's sometimes and went out the living room.  I called them down stairs.  They came, saw the shirt and both started to cry.  Caleb and Emma were both freaking out a little bit.  You would have thought that I was beating them to death the way they were carrying on!  GOODNESS!  Emma was crying so hard she was almost hyperventilating and Caleb cried so hard he gave himself a bloody nose.  All this before the shirt was even on!!!

So, I had to get Caleb cleaned up and Emma calmed down.  But they were not off the hook.  One of my biggest pet peeves is when parents/teachers/adults warn kids, but there is no follow through.  If I say I am going to do something, then I have to do it otherwise, I loose all authority with them.

Finally, the shirt was on.  Told them that they had to be in it for 10 minutes.  I took a picture, which also made them mad.  Then they had to go sit on the couch.

 Don't they just look thrilled!!!

They sat down on the couch and I started the timer.  I told them that when the 10 minutes was done they were free.  And if the fighting continued they would get the shirt again.  I would do it all summer if needed.  Caleb and Emma need to understand that they can not under any circumstance treat each other badly. Not with mean words or physical hurting.

When the timer went off this is what I found:

Vacation Bible School

Who doesn't love VBS!?!?!  I know that my kids loved every minute of this last week.  The theme this year was Kingdom ROCK.  Castles, knights, etc.  What a great time we all had!  The songs have been stuck in my head too...I just randomly start singing the VBS songs.  I guess it could be worse!

Here are just a few pictures from the week:

A First...

We so enjoyed getting to use our new table and chair set out in our new backyard paradise tonight!!!  Caleb and Emma were so excited.  You can tell Caleb was totally relaxed!!!  It was awesome and we are looking forward to many other meals and gatherings out there!

My Backyard Paradise

For so long I have been wanting to fix my backyard up to be more usable for our family.  It is finally coming along!  Last year we put in the swing set for Caleb and Emma, with help from my mom.  They love it and play out there a lot!  Rick also put in a little garden for me to grow tomatoes and peppers.  It is nothing big but something! And I love it!

This year he put in another little spot for more veggies! I can't wait to start eating my garden tomatoes!  But I will have to beat Emma to them this year.  Last summer she would go out to the backyard and pick them and eat them before we would even see them.  For a long time I thought the plants weren't doing well...nope, I just had a tomato thief!!!  I finally told her that she had to share them! HA!

Rick has been working hard all week on building the pergola over the patio.  He has done a great job!  He says it is not great, but will do...I think he is too hard on himself!  I love it!  This morning he stained it.  While he did that Caleb, Emma and I headed to Home Depot to get our new patio table and chair set.  It is nothing fancy, but perfect for our little family!  I can't wait to sit out there in the mornings and drink my coffee while I write or read.  Nothing better!  Or sitting out there in the evening watching the kids play.  AWESOME!

The beginning....coming along!

 All done!!!

Who wants to come over for coffee!?!?

One of my little garden with my amazing flamingos from Suzanne!

Stylin' New Glasses

Caleb has been such a trooper when it comes to his glasses.  I am a proud mommy!  He never messes with them or complains about them.  He just leaves them on his face.  But really, why would he bother them when they help him SEE!!!

I can't believe that we made it through the first year with the same pair.  True, we did have to take them in to be adjusted several times and replace nose pieces, but that is minor!

The last eye appointment went quite well.  There was improvement in his right eye and no change in his left eye, which is the worst one.  The best news of all, was that his depth perception has improved a GREAT DEAL!  Praise the Lord!  We will just keep praying that next year we will NOT have to do eye therapy, because it is long, tiring for all involved and VERY expensive!

Caleb had more say in his glasses this time around.  After all, he is the one that has to wear them and knows now what feels better on his cute little face!  We all like them!  What do you think?

 My very handsome boy!

T-Ball Summer Fun

T-ball started last night...fun was had by all!  I had no doubt in my mind that Emma would have a blast with it all, but I was nervous about Caleb.  When Caleb had played soccer it was by far not his favorite and he did not enjoy himself.  Part of that could have been the fact that he did not have his glasses yet and he could have been very frustrated with the fact that it was hard to see.  Both kids left with a smile on their faces last night though!

T-ball will be every Tuesday and Thursday nights through the middle of July.  Games start on the 18th and until then it is practice/getting the kids used to the game.  The told parents that t-ball is for fun only and not score it kept.  I love this!  I think it is so important for kids to have fun and learn good sportsmanship.  I hope all the parents treat it like that!  They get their hats and shirts next week, as well as, taking their pictures.  How fun!

I have to say that it was a hoot to watch the kids play last night! I forgot how seriously cute t-ball is.  They are so clueless, it is funny!  The coaches seem really good and gentle.  They were super patient with all the kiddos!

My kiddos in the out field!

Caleb playing third base...RIGHT ON THE BASE OF COURSE! HA!

Emma checking out her glove...instead of watching the practice going on!

 Slugger Emma!

Up to bat....Caleb Wiese!  He hit it a good one then proceeded to run STRAIGHT to second base!

After practice the kids wanted ice cream, so off we went to Sonic for a cool treat!!!  They loved that just as much as playing ball!
 Yummy treats!
