Trick or Treating. Costumes. Candy. Spooks and Scares. Caleb and Emma had a better understand of Halloween this year. What a fun time we had!
I really didn't know what to dress Caleb and Emma up as for Halloween. I was leaning towards Raggedy Ann and Andy...not really sure where to get the outfits. Then I asked everyone on Facebook what they thought. Everyone had good ideas. Some of the I might even use in the future. Then one night I was at Target and I saw the Dorothy costume. I thought it was cute, but really didn't think about it again. A few night later we were flipping through the channels and "The Wizard of Oz" was on TV. It caught Caleb and Emma attention! They watch ever movement of the characters. Plus they were not even afraid of the wicked witch. Emma actually liked the flying monkeys. Rick and I were amazed! It was right then that I decided they had picked their costumes!
I went and bought Emma's Dorothy outfit at Target. They had the sparkly shoes, but they didn't have her size. So my sister, Kelly checked in Rapid City. She found them there and sent them to us.
Then to decided which character Caleb was going to be. At first I thought that he would be the lion. So I went to look. I found a couple different lion costumes, but nothing in his size. They were all too small. So I started thinking that I could just piece together a Scarecrow costume. Easy enough. One day at work, during lunch in the faculty room, one of the teachers I work with said she had a scarecrow costume that her mom made for her son when he was about Caleb's age. She said I could borrow it if I wanted. I was SO excited not to have to make something...we all know how much FREE time I have! Ha Ha! So Melissa let me borrow it and it fit great!
The day before Halloween, Miss Candi has a Halloween party for the kids at daycare. It is always fun to get all the kids dressed up and then sugared up! Ha Ha! They played games and ate snacks.
It was nice to have Halloween on a Saturday this year. I didn't have to hurry home from picking the kids of from daycare and get everything ready for our Trunk or Treat at church. I had the whole day to prepare. Rick was at the BSU game, so I did everything by myself, but it all worked out okay.
Caleb and Emma enjoyed getting all dressed up. I was worried about Caleb and the head piece he was going to wear. I didn't know if he would leave it on, but he did great! Emma was of course in love with her ruby slippers!
What a warm night we had for Trick or Treating! It was so nice not to have to have the kids bundle up. It was wonderful. Our first stop was at Dressbarn to trick or treat. My boss wanted to see their costumes and she always gives out candy at the store!
Caleb and Emma had a blast at Trunk or Treat at the church. We hit every car. Caleb would say, "Trick or Treat" and watch the candy go in his bucket or take it and put it in himself. Emma was not interested in saying "Trick or Treat". She just wanted to take the candy, put it in her bucket and move on.
We ate soup at the church and even Caleb and Emma had some. With mommy and daddy's help of course. They really didn't want to sit very long...too much to see. We played some carnival games. Then it was about time to call it a night.
After we left the church, we headed to our friends, Joe and Sarah's house to trick or treat. Then we hit a few houses in their neighborhood. Caleb and Emma loved it! So many people commented about how cute they were! And they were pretty cute, if I do say so myself!
We headed home after that. It was way past bed time and with church in the morning we knew it would come fast. Caleb and Emma enjoyed dumping out their goodies to see what they got. Caleb didn't want to put his bucket away when it was time to clean up and take a bath. They had a lot of fun! Next year will be even better I am sure!
Checking out their goodies!
