Hunting Roley Poly Bugs

I love watching Caleb and Emma discover new things. Wednesday morning after breakfast, we went in the backyard to play. We played on the slide, played with all the balls and then something wonderful happened! Caleb and Emma discovered Roley Poly bugs! OH MY...were they ever excited and interested beyond belief.

They watched them at first.

Then mommy showed them how the bugs rolled up into a ball. Emma found this fascinating!

Then, of course, Caleb wanted to pick them up. So, he would pick one up and bring it to daddy. Daddy being the kind hearted man that he is kept telling them to be gentle.

So, of course, my daughter...who is NOTHING like me...ha ha...proceeded to step on them! OUCH! Poor bugs! We told her to be nice and just watch them. So, she picked one up and tried to eat it! Daddy quickly saved to Roley Poly bug from an awful fate. Only to have Emma squish that poor bug too.

Caleb was interested in picking them up and sharing them with us. But yes, curiosity got to him too and he also attempted to eat one of the bugs! Mommy, this time tried to save the Roley Poly bug, but it was to late. I did get it out of Caleb's mouth, but that Roley Poly did not make it.

We had a moment of silence. Then found something else to do. That was quite enough Roley Poly killing for one day.
