Thank the Lord for good days! Especially if the day ends better than it started. And when someone is suffering from terminal cancer...good days are something to REJOICE IN!
I was up before Grandma again, and had breakfast ready for her and Grandpa. She had a harder time eating this morning and went back to bed after breakfast. Grandpa headed out and did chores. He also had another calf born this morning, so he was busy watching the new little girl.
While Grandma slept, I got to spend the morning with my cousin, Samantha. It was so nice to chat with her, joke and laugh. We also talked about the stress of this situation and how it is affecting everyone nearby and far away. I guess that is what happens when you have a family that is super tight. I feel so blessed to be apart of a family that loves each other so deeply. Sam and I also saw about 26 deer at once up by the house feeding today. Sadly, you can't see all of them at once in the pictures, but WOW there were so many!
One of my favorite moments of the day was when Sam and I had to go wake Grandma up to get ready to head to Fergus for radiation. Sam and I tip toed into the bedroom. Sam crawled in the bed on one side and I crawled in on the side closet to Grandma. She woke up, wrapped her arms around me and the three of us cuddled and talked. Grandma smiled. I know that moments like this mean a lot to her, because they mean a lot to me.
I helped Grandma get up, shower and get dressed. Sam got a little meat, cheese, crackers, grapes and some Ensure for Grandma to eat before we headed out to the appointment. She ate some, but nothing major.
The appointment went well. The radiation treatment took less than 20 minutes today. Dr. Barnes wanted to touch base with Grandma before the weekend. Grandpa, my Aunt Wendi and I all sat in to listen to what Dr. Barnes had to say. I was very impressed with how knowledgeable she was and how kind. Dr. Barnes was very gentle and caring with Grandma, just has doctors should be. They took Grandma of the nausea pill, which could have been causing some of the extra tiredness. Some of it is from the radiation, but she thought taking her off the nausea would be a good idea. So as of today she has 11 treatments left until they check the spots on the brain and spine again. Grandma has lost 2 pounds this week, bring her down to 117 pounds. Dr. Barnes was worried about this weight loss. She told us about a medicine called Megace to help with appetite. So Grandma will now be taking that to help her keep her weight on.
On the way home Grandpa stopped from ice cream cones again, Grandma seemed to like that the day before and with two pounds down, should probably eat several. She ate the ice cream cone, plus a banana we had packed with us. It was good to see her eat a little more.
Grandma did not want a nap when she got home either. So she rode with me to Perham to pick up her new medicine. She seemed to have more energy this evening. When we got back to the house Grandma and I listened to some old hymns. This made her a little emotional, but we sang along. It was a nice afternoon. We also had 2 turkeys visit us!
My Aunt Wendi, Uncle Reid, and cousins, Taylor and Jamie came out for the evening. We took Grandma out for supper. She really seemed to enjoy her meal. She didn't finish it by any means, but ate well for her. It was good for her to get out a little. Folks in town we happy to see her too!
When we got home she enjoyed visiting with everyone and looking at old pictures. Always a lot of laughs!
